Cyclone Asani forecast and track update


Vigorous stormy conditions can be seen in the North Indian Ocean and adjoining equator. This has fueled the development of a depression, which is set to intensify into Cyclone Asani during next subsequent 12-24 hrs.

Active ITCZ over the North Indian Ocean and adjoining equator along with low to mild wind shear of 10 knots (18km/h, varying around 16-20km/h), strong upper level divergence, Sea Surface Temperature of around 29-31°C, Strong NorthWestward outflow and strong influence of Rossby and Kelvin wave has spawned and fueled the formations and development of Invest 92b which has intensified into a depression layed over Lat 9.4°N, Lon 91.3°E. 

Under favorable conditions this syste is likely to intensify into a Deep Depression by tonight into tomorrow early morning then into a Cyclonic Storm in next subsequent 12-24 hrs

This system is expected to move NorthWestward and will have a somewhat rapid intensification.
This system has strong convection system too, with excellent parameters which will support the intensification of the system and strong convective clouds will keep on forming 



All the above mentioned factors has actually spawned two Cyclonic Disturbances on the both sides of the equator.

Both of these systems will Influence the IOD (Indian ocean Dipole), can delay the evolution of negative phase of  IOD.

Weather effects of Cyclonic Storm Asani

System is expected to move North West ward followed by a recurve and little deintensification before nearing the coast.

From late of 8th May, Many places in eastern India will start witnessing some isolated activities with intensification of these acts as the system moves closer to the coast. also CS is expected to brush the coast of Odisha, N AndraPradesh by 10th May 

By the evening of 9th May, system will enter the recurving phase and under the influence of same.
Moderate rain with few isolated heavy spells and isolated hailstorms activities along with gusty winds (30-75km/h) are expected over the coast of Odisha, N Andrapradesh, Visakhapatam,  Srikakulam, Bramapur, Puri and Adj areas by 8th May. Intensity of these acts will increase by 9th as the storm nears coast.

Wx on 10th May will be vigorous. Many places to witness heavy rainfall activities with winds gusting upto 60-90Km/h

Effect of this system on the other parts of India

 As the flow of  Dry and Hot Westerlies, NorthWesterlies can be seen pulled across North and Central India. We expect another round of intense heatwave across the parts of the country
