Rainy Start to 2nd Month of the year in North & East India (2nd February - 4th February)
Weather was mainly dry with foothills of UttarPradesh observing upper-surface fog last week. Alot of places were observing maximum temperature above 20°C with some places reporting 23-25°C. Few places reported frost and below 4°C temp in rural Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan.
Fog update
Now weather is expected to remain windy and fog will cover atleast 60-80% area of North India including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, UttarPradesh and 5-20% areas of Rajasthan & MadhyaPradesh. Flow of warm moist easterlies will keep on fueling the fog expansion and duration.
On 2nd Feb Indo Gangetic plains will again experience widespread surface and upper level fog, followed by a reduction on 3nd and 4th. Fog will be back from 5th Feb
Places with calm winds to observe Surface Fog with visibility droping below 100m
Urban cities like faridabad to observe fog holes. Only to be covered with reduced temp and flow light breeze in lower and are mid atmosphere (surface-4000 feet)
Fog will be cleared from 30-60% places by late afternoon but chances of fog not clearing out persists
Cold Day is inevitable at few stations in Punjab, Haryana, UttarPradesh and parts of Delhi
Fog activities to continue for few days with short breaks in between
Fog may clear out quickly in Urban cities due to emissions and urban heat factor
Weather Features
Drastic change in weather is expected from early hours of 3rd February as a WD is approaching Northern hills with a Induced CC which is expected to intensify into a LOW PRESSURE AREA over Punjab
as you can see this system is getting moisture feed from both seas and this one is a fast moving system.
As this system progress more on its Eastward trajectory, Activities it produces will strengthen because it is getting close to its other moisture feeding side i.e Bay of Bengal
Another weak WD likely after passage of this system around 6th February.
This System a rather quick moving one so rainfall is expected for 1 day with slight chances of stray showers on 2nd day and cleared by 3rd day/ Fog cover to be back
Rainfall & Snowfall Forecast (2nd-4th Feb)
~ Hills ~
Moderate to Heavy Snowfall and isolated Rainfall is expected in Higher and Mid Reaches of Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Leh and Ladakh
Light to Moderate Snowfall with Light-Mod Rain & Isolated Hailstorm, Heavy Snow and intense rain is expected in Mid and lower reaches of Jammu, Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and adjoining hills during Early 2nd February into Late 3rd February
~ Plains ~
🔺️Mumbai & Gujarat: Weather is likely to be dry with partly cloudy to mostly sky on 3rd February, few places to see partly cloudy sky on 4th Feb also.
No Rainfall is expected from this WD as wind are little dry and quick, not much time for thunder clouds to form
🔺️Rajasthan: Less Rain is expected in this system as winds are expected to be drier despite increased instability. Isolated place may get stray light showers.
Places in North Rajasthan to get Light-Mod Showers Starting Late 2nd Feb into Early 3rd Feb
🔺️Punjab, North Haryana and Terai region of west UttarPradesh to get Light-Mod Rains with few places getting Moderate to Intense rain, Good chances of Hailstorm and Thudner/Lighting as Instability is high.
•Winds gusting upto 30-60km/H expected
•Isol Hailstorm/Intense Rain
•Peak Intensity: Early 3rd Feb into eve of 4th Feb
•Accumulation would be anywhere between 25-50MM
*Stay under shelter during Thunder & Lightning strikes*
🔺️Haryana, Delhi and West UttarPradesh are likely to get light to Moderate rain with slight chances of isolated Intense Rain/Hail With Thudner & Lightning at few spots
•Rainfall Spread Is expected to be less at these places
•Wind Gusts upto 20-45km/H
•20% Chances for Hail/Thunder at isol spots
•Rainfall accumulation would be ranging anywhere from 10-40MM
•Peak Intensity: Early 3rd into Evening of 4th Feb
🔺️Delhi & Ncr
•Rainfall will commerce by 12am-3am on 3rd February
•Stray shower cannot be ruled out. Most likely b/w late evening of 2nd feb
•Intensity would be Light to Moderate
•weak to medium Intensity thunder/lightning at some places
•Wind gusts upto 20-45 km/h
🔺️Central and East UttarPradesh: alot of places in central UP to get light to Mod Rains b/w 3rd & 4th Feb with Terai and East UP getting Moderate to Intense Rain/Hail.
🔺️Sct Mod to intense rain rain in Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and West Bengal.
Temperature Update
•Both Min/Max temperature is epected to rise as flow of Cold NorthWesterlies would resume and warm Easterlies-Southeasternlies would take over North Indian Plains
•Places with Fog/Cloud cover can expect Cold Day conditions
•Temp drop after 3-5 days
